Ashton Gray discovered BRR through the firm’s experience with grocery and wanted to collaborate on the rollout of medical retail centers in the Southeast and South-central United States. When completed, these new “medtail” centers will house an anchor tenant which typically features a medical component, and the property will allow for a customizable number of supporting tenants. These locations are designed to accommodate orthodontists, optometrists, dentists and more. Many sites will incorporate a quick serve restaurant, along with a drive through element, when possible.

BRR designed the prototype to create a blank canvas that could accommodate any future tenant in the light medical industry. Challenged by the opportunity to create a flexible and future-proof design, BRR collaborated with the client to understand its end user and the potential locations where these centers will be located.

BRR designed Ashton Gray’s prototype with a modern aesthetic, which features varying heights and a sloped roof which adds visual intrigue and separation from differentiating tenants. Black, iron awnings were incorporated into the design, along with slim, vertical exterior light fixtures. The team achieved a long-lasting and classic look through durable materials like brick in a contrasting off-white and dark grey color. Board and batten siding is an option included in the design to better integrate in the Southeast coastal region.

With a six-week production schedule, the BRR team’s top priority was to stay coordinated and deliver the final result in a timely and efficient manner. Ashton Gray and BRR are currently collaborating on 35 medical retail centers and continue to evolve and adapt the prototype.
