Walmart Next-Generation Fulfillment Center Opens in Stockton, California
Walmart’s fifth next-generation fulfillment center opened in Stockton, Calif., on Oct. 8, 2026. The 900,000-square-foot, three-story facility will be home to more than 1,000 Walmart associates and integrates a high-density automated storage and retrieval system designed to support faster fulfillment of online orders across the West Coast. The automation reduces a previously 12-step manual process to five steps.
A focus of the project was the associate experience, supporting Walmart’s goal of increasing employee retention in the warehouse. Creating a fully climate-controlled warehouse required close coordination across the project team to ensure the storage and retrieval system did not clash with the building’s mechanical systems. The facility also features upgraded training rooms, expanded break areas, dedicated mothers’ rooms and welcoming office spaces.
“Seeing this next-gen fulfillment center come to life and officially serving customers is an exciting moment for everyone who worked on this project. Every system in this building was designed to support Walmart’s operations and enhance the associate experience for those who run it every day,” said BRR Principal Dan Popp.
BRR Architecture is the architect of record on the project and has served as architect of record on numerous Walmart next-generation fulfillment centers. Learn more about BRR’s industrial experience here.
