The Compton

  • Bentonville, AR

The Compton is designed to be a sought-after location within the Northwest Arkansas Community; its thoughtful design sets the project up to become a lasting destination. In a region known for the beauty of its natural environment, the hotel aims to connect its visitors to the outdoors while providing updated amenities at the center of town.

The design of this hotel draws upon the local landscape and evokes a seamless transition from outside to inside, pulling its language, scale and materiality from other buildings in the district —while incorporating biophilic concepts and natural materials from the region. The hotel features a sculptural bluff in the central atrium inspired by the natural cliffs along the nearby Buffalo River, along with extensive interior and exterior landscaping. Natural wood, locally sourced limestone, and brick permeate the environment while allowing for a distinct identity for the all-day café, cocktail bar, steakhouse, event space and hotel services. The two-level entrance creates a space to experience; the natural materials create a perfect backdrop for an event or for guests to come to relax.

In addition to airy guestrooms, bike storage and retail, the hotel offers multiple dining options and public spaces for use by the community. Intentionally engaging with the Bentonville City Square, this project is closely tied with ongoing civic and parks projects aimed at further pedestrianizing the neighborhood.

Sestina occupies the Southwest Corner of the first floor of The Compton, Bentonville’s lifestyle hotel at the center of downtown. The BRR team worked closely with the owner and management group to design the space of the restaurant as the vision for the hotel evolved.

A refrigerated wine display anchors the entry, its curated bottles visible through glass and greeting guests upon arrival. The bar and dining area opens immediately beyond, highlighting custom features like the veiny emerald onyx bar top sourced directly from Italy.

Across the room, a limestone carving station balances the far end of the room, shaped from regionally sourced stone and hand-chiseled by skilled artisans. A suspended planter above the carving station serves as a dramatic centerpiece in the dining room, pulling the eye upward. Venetian plaster covers the walls, adding warmth and texture throughout the space.

The nature-inspired material palette connects Sestina to the outdoor character of Northwest Arkansas: warm wood tones, natural stone, and organic textures that extend the design language carried through the hotel. An outdoor patio extends the dining experience to the street strengthening the connection between the hotel and the surrounding community.

The project required close coordination across more than ten consultant disciplines, a complexity the finished space seamlessly conceals. The final design creates an elevated and intentional restaurant experience for hotel guests and patrons from the surrounding community.
