Walmart Academy

  • Chicago, IL

Through BRR’s extensive history working with Walmart, we were thrilled to collaborate with them on the Walmart Academy location in Chicago, IL. When Walmart set out to reopen the Chatham store after it was significantly damaged due to the civil unrest in 2020, the brand wanted to do more for the community which led to the addition of this Academy location in the existing parking lot.

The Chicago Walmart Academy offers education and training opportunities to both Walmart associates and the public. The building features vocational shops and a lecture hall to host college preparation courses, classes on skilled trades, HVAC, technology and health training. Our design team pulled inspiration from the local community utilizing exposed steel from the modernist movement, relative to the south side of Chicago, and the horizontal awnings were motivated by the Frederick C. Robie House designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
