In Progressive Grocer’s annual Store Design Contest, Queen’s Price Chopper in Stanley, Kans., took home the title for ‘Best Remodel Over $6 Million’. BRR served as the Architect of Record for the project and provided full-scope services, from entitlement through construction administration.
The store’s remodel and expansion added 24,000 square feet to the original building and brought the total square footage to more than 85,000. Design updates introduced new specialty areas, including an Asian Grill, Conscious Living Marketplace and made-to-order grill and café. In the existing meat department, the incorporation of brick and 3D molding harkens to Kansas City’s iconic Livestock Exchange building and visually celebrates the Queen family’s connection to Kansas City.
“The success of this remodel and expansion is the result of research hours and a design focused on the goal of providing a destination grocery,” said John Quinton, BRR Vice President and Principal in Charge of the remodel. “Completing the project on an aggressive schedule – while keeping the store in operation – required the collaboration of numerous parties, from store employees, to vendors, contracts and design professionals. The renewed customer experience, combined with loyal patrons, and excellent customer service, will keep this store competitive with its peers for many years to come.”
