BRR receives 2008-2011 IDP Outstanding Firm Award

November 3, 2008

BRR has recently been recognized with the 2008-2011 IDP Outstanding Firm Award. The Intern Development Program Advisory Committee (IDPAC) recognized five architectural firms from across the country whose intern development programs go above and beyond the baseline criteria for the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) IDP. The primary intention of the IDP award program is to encourage firms to be more active in the internship process by creating knowledge resources for emerging professionals and students.

BRR’s unique program includes the implementation of an internal BRR Academy of Professional Development (BRR | apd) which operates both the firm’s Intern Development Program (IDP) and their AIA/CES Registered Provider Program.

Such a streamlined process has allowed this exceptional program to provide Interns with a clear path for success as they embark on becoming Registered Architects.

BRR Takes Home AIA Kansas Merit Award

October 10, 2008

BRR Architecture was awarded the 2008 AIA Kansas Merit Award for “Excellence in Masonry Design” for its Highland Village, Texas Walmart Supercenter project. BRR accepted the award on Friday, October 10th at the AIA Kansas Design Celebration and Awards Program.

This non-prototypical Supercenter used Texas Limestone and an integral colored, split faced CMU for the majority of the walls. Both color, and a blend of smooth faced block was used to break up the size of the building and create a pleasing, human scale facade. Because it can be somewhat imposing walking up to a two hundred thousand square foot building, we added multifunctional curved masonry walls at each entry that welcome customers from the parking lot. The jury commented that "The design team did an exceptional

job, through the use of masonry, to visually trim the size of this colossal 'big box' store."

Congratulations, BRR!

July 25, 2008

BRR has been participating in the Kansas City Corporate Challenge games since 2003 with 2008 marking our sixth year competing. We started off the year with the challenge of defending our championship title. Team BRR stepped up to the plate and could not be deterred from winning the divisional championship again. BRR thrives on strong teamwork, dedication, and commitment to each other and to the games.

The awards banquet for this year’s 29th annual Kansas City Corporate Challenge games was held at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center in Kansas City on July 25th. Here BRR proudly accepted the 1st place trophy as Division F Champions. This is the third straight year BRR has won first place in the KCCC games!

The Kansas City Corporate Challenge games continue to be a great opportunity for BRR employees to build

long-lasting relationships with each other and other competing companies. Congratulations to all participants, fans, and supporters for all the dedication and enthusiasm you have brought to this year’s games!

BRR Wins Design Excellence Award

June 27, 2008

BRR was recently recognized as having some of Kansas City's best and brightest designers after receiving a Bronze Design Excellence Award by Kansas City Home Design and Commercial Journal Kansas City. BRR's Bistro was entered in to the Commercial Tenant Finish, Architecture/Interior space category. As recognized in the July/August issue of Kansas City Home Design, "no matter the aesthetic or purpose, superlative design possesses several uncompromising elements: it must be beautiful, it must be functional, it must be original, and it must be relevant." BRR's Bistro design hits all of these design components with three distinct types of interaction: a soft seating area for small, friendly gatherings, a standing bar with or without barstools for quick, impromptu meetings and restaurant style seating with tables for the lunch time crowd. Rich countertops, warm wood tones, intricate lighting and soft seating help create a European flavor. Modern amenities like

flat screen televisions and numerous varieties of coffee and tea round out this unique experience.

Congratulations, BRR!

BRR receives 2008-2011 IDP Firm Award

April 16, 2008

In April of 2008, BRR Architecture was awarded the "2008 IDP Firm Award" by the national Intern Development Program Advisory Committee (IDPAC). This IDP Firm Award is part of the all new IDP Outstanding Firm Awards Program which aims to honor not only firms with the most remarkable dedication to the IDP, but also those who meet baseline criteria in their dedication to the Intern Development Program (IDP). The primary intentions of this program are to encourage firms to create a resource for emerging

professionals and students and to encourage firms to be more active in the internship process.

BRR Architecture received this designation because we have established a formal in-house Intern Development Program that focuses on helping our architectural interns begin and follow through on their path to architectural licensure. Our program provides all of our architectural interns an encouraging environment for training and opportunities to development their skills to prepare for the challenges of the practice of architecture in the future.
